Class Recordings Archived HERE

In this four session series, we’ll examine and learn the Yiddish songs composed by amazing men and women who tirelessly wrote and sang on behalf of the oppressed, shouted out in song against tyranny and injustice in the “old country”, and provided anthems for labor and woman’s rights in our own “Goldene Medineh”. Materials, lyrics and English transliterations will be provided. No knowledge of Yiddish is required, but odds are you’ll unknowingly gain a few Yiddish words and phrases! You’ll likely have heard some of the songs before. Come explore our rich trove of Yiddish human rights songs from then till now.”

Ami Goodman is a retired physician in San Francisco and a lover of Jewish music of all genres. He grew up in a home where Yiddish and Hebrew were spoken and Yiddish salons regularly met, and over the past few years has begun studying the Yiddish language and more deeply delving into the vastly varied treasures of Yiddish music. He’s looking forward to sharing what he’s been discovering and singing.
