“Philosophy”, or the “love of wisdom” in the classical western sense has been criticized in recent decades for being of limited usefulness and even decadent in today’s society. Yoga Philosophy or “Samkhya” also has ancient classical roots, but like the values-based teachings of Mussar and some forms of Buddhism emphasizes that theory must be wedded to action if either is to be helpful. And yet, yogic philosophy has unique offerings of its own that continue to inspire both the faithful and secular of many paths.
This four-week introduction to emergent yogic philosophy will draw from canonical texts such as The Gita and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and commentaries and introduce more recently translated materials and insights from notable teachers and modern sages of the yogic tradition. Brief guided meditations will be offered in each class to help give us a felt sense of these teachings and remind us that yogic philosophy as a “both/and” wisdom tradition can be both informative and fun!”

About Jennifer Ganya

Jennifer’s introduction to yoga as a beginning student in 2017 was heavily influenced by the Late BKS Iyengar, under the guidance of a handful of qualified instructors. After a few years, as she learned more about yoga, Jennifer came to value equally the wisdom teachings of yin, restorative and adaptive practices in particular. These enlivend her practice and inspire her teaching. while still being in line with the core teaching from her original Iyengar instructors..that yoga at its heart is meditation in action,
In the fall of 2020 Jennifer received her 80 hour Yin yoga certification from Kassandra Reindhart, recognized by Yoga Alliance US and Canada and British Yoga Wheel. She then earned additional certificates in yoga anatomy as taught by Doug Keller and is currently working on an additional Yoga certification with Yiin Yoga founder Paulie Zink
