In this class we examine the rise of classical Herbals and handbooks of magic, as well as healing amulets, in the context of the advent of &#8220;Rational Medicine&#8221; in the wake of Maimonidean and the professionalization of healing (roughly 12-18th centuries) We will begin with the first book of Jewish medicine &#8220;Sefer Assaf&#8221; and move on to examine grimoires and herbals in Europe culminating in an examination of recent research into Eastern European Jewish Folk Medicine. Segulot, &#8221; Treasured Holistic Remedies&#8221; will be shared and we will have, no doubt, some passionate discussion of holistic medicine in our own time and the legacy of Jewish Earth Based Hochma\/Wicca.
